Johannesburg – Officials from RAMJACK Technology Solutions have announced the successful deployment of a geotechnical mining information system at Petra Diamonds in the Free State, South Africa. The deployment marks a first for South African mining.

The deployment is just the first in a series of South African deployments for RAMJACK and Petra Diamonds. The first half of 2016 will also see a similar deployment at Petra’s Finsch Mine. RAMJACK has been gathering significant attention with Southern African mines on the back of its exclusive relationships with technology providers Mine Design Technologies (MDT) and Newtrax – both of whom provided technology for the Koffiefontein deployment.
The deployment was designed in collaboration with the Koffiefontein mine geotechnical team, and will include a Newtrax real-time monitoring system, 13 MineHop™ wireless RTU Nodes, and 11 SMART MultiPoint Borehole Extensometers (MPBX). With the system in place, Koffiefontein will be able to monitor movement in their underground mining operations from the surface in real-time, saving time, reducing costs and improving overall mine safety. Further expansion of the system is planned to take the remote real-time geotechnical monitoring solution to other mining levels as the mine continues to develop.
